Impregnating wax is used primarily by corrugated box companies, paper products companies, and paper cup companies. On the corrugator, the wax is impregnated to the medium and/or one or both liners. It provides a 10 - 15 percent increase in board compression strength compared to unwaxed board and superior board performance under high humidity conditions.
Impregnation of paper products protects primarily against liquid water, not against water vapor. It reduces water wicking tendencies and water absorbtion. On the corrugator, typical wax add-on level is 12-20% per component.
